The Milanese driver brings #CorrerePerUnRespiro to the stages of the Canary Islands for the third round of the European Rally Championship (FIA ERC)
Cusano Milanino, 06 May 2022
A new international experience awaits Rachele Somaschini from 12th to 14th May. The young testimonial of the Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation (FFC) will be at the start of the Rally Islas Canarias. It is the third round and first one on tarmac in the 2022 European Rally Championship calendar, after the Fafe Rally and the Azores Rally, both on gravel, held in March.
Challenging races, made even more difficult by the weather conditions, have made Rachele’s debut, in the continental series, difficult. She will now drive her Citroen C3 Rally 2 – managed by FPF Sport – in a completely new rally for her, in the wild scenery of the Canary Islands, always supported by the expert Nicola Arena at the pacenotes.
In addition to the fundamental support of Prima Assicurazioni, Mapei and Bardhal, the popular Canary event, which this year counts 46 editions, will see the Lombardy driver further supported by the local Bardhal distributor (Distributiones Granado) with logistical and promotional help. In this way, island fans can get to know Rachele and her ‘CorrerePerUnRespiro’ project directly. This project aims to raise awareness and funds for cystic fibrosis research, condition which she has suffered from since birth. The partner will be sponsoring an open meeting on Monday 9 May in the Alisios shopping mall in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which will be broadcasted live on Instagram on the @bardhal_canarias page.
“I’m working hard to get to this competition well prepared – comments Rachele -. The events I competed in at the beginning of the season were particularly tough and I hope I have gained the necessary experience to face this new challenge with more confidence. I am honoured by the attention I am receiving for my first time in the Canary Islands and I am very excited to be able to meet the local public up close, and give my #CorrerePerUnRespiro project a cross-border resonance. I would like to thank all the sponsors who are allowing me to continue my programme in the European Championship and I can’t wait to arrive on the beautiful volcanic island of Gran Canaria and take part in this very prestigious rally. We will do our best to entertain the public and do well.”
The appointment is set for Thursday, 12 May, when after free practice in San Mateo, the competition will get underway with the super special stage in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The race will then get into full swing on Friday 13 and Saturday 14, with a programme of 13 special stages for a total of 194.04 timed kilometres, before concluding on Saturday afternoon with the prize-giving ceremony at the Gran Canaria Stadium, starting at 18:40.
The entire race can be followed live on the WRC All live web platform.
